Honda can now proudly boast as the Guinness World Record holder for the "Lowest fuel consumption - all 24 contiguous EU countries" title. This record for fuel efficiency comes after a Civic Tourer model achieved the highest recorded fuel-economy ratings to date while navigating the 24 adjoining European Union countries on one extended journey. With only 9 fill-ups and an average of 932 miles between each visit to the pump, Fergal McGrath and Julian Warren completed this 8,387-mile journey in a standard Honda Civic Tourer 1.6 i-DTEC wagon.

McGrath and Warren, two members of Honda's Research and Development Team, took on the task in an effort to prove the real-world efficiency of the diesel-engine Civic. And, prove it they did. After all, the Civic Tourer averaged approximately 100.31 mpg over the course of the 25-day voyage that began and ended in Belgium. Every aspect of the record-breaking run was done according to the rules, which stated that the drivers must travel in the car for the entire journey, cover approximately 600 kilometers a day, fill the tank to maximum capacity at regular filling stations and carry out the feat in a standard model.

Although the standard diesel Civic Tourer is not currently available in the U.S. market, shoppers looking for excellent fuel efficiency can find it in the standard Honda Civic sedan and the Civic Hybrid that deliver impressive combined fuel economy ratings. Available today, our new Honda Civics in Fort Worth may not offer quite the same record-breaking specs as their European diesel relative, but the standard Civic does provide an agile, fun-to-drive ride with class-leading efficiency ratings and road-trip-ready comfort.
