Live music and homemade barbeque are the perfect combination for a great Labor Day weekend. Whether you are a big Blues fan or a connoisseur of ribs, you won’t want to miss this year’s Bedford Blues & BBQ Festival. The Bedford Blues & BBQ Festival takes place September 2-4, 2016. Also referred to as Bedford Blues Fest, this three-day event kicks off its 17th year with an amateur “Backyard BBQ” competition Friday night. Participants confident in their grill skills will compete for the title of “King of the Backyard” and a cash prize. This event gives all you “master BBQ taste testers” out there the chance to try their hand, or tastebuds, at judging.
Throughout the rest of the weekend, there will be even more contests to enjoy. The People’s Choice competition on Saturday gives attendees the chance to judge the BBQ of thirty award-winning teams. On Sunday, the Battle of the BBQ pits ten professional food vendors against each other again letting festival-goers choose the winner.
This festival may feature some of the best BBQ this side of the Mississippi, but we can’t forget about the Blues! Both national and local musicians will be gracing the stage all weekend long. This year’s headliners include Tommy Castro and Trombone Shorty on Saturday and Janiva Magness and Dr. John on Sunday. Check out the full lineup for more information.
Be sure to bring a little extra spending money for the bountiful marketplace. Local artisans and vendors will be showcasing their crafts and creations throughout the festival.
