What is Dream Park?
It will be the first universally inclusive playground available to children with special needs in the DFW area. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) only requires that parks include wheelchair accessible elements, so many playgrounds can be very limiting for children with other special needs, such as visual and hearing impairment, sensory disorders and Down syndrome.
The dream of Dream Park is to offer a playground suitable for children of all abilities, one that will not only meet but exceed ADA standards. When the park is launched, it will replace Fort Worth’s Trinity Park and offer 57,000 square feet of play area. The park will include several unique elements, such as:
- Safer poured-in-place rubber surfacing
- Adaptive swings with high backs, as well as toddler and other swings
- Stainless steel roller slide – plastic slides short out hearing devices worn by children with cochlear ear implants
- Ramping elements to the playground, transfer stations and specialized seating
- Musical elements to provide an enhanced sensory experience
- Extra wide sidewalks
- And much more!
Honda of Fort Worth is incredibly proud to sponsor a park where able-bodied children and children with special needs can play side by side. We went out with a bang near the end of last year by donating $100,000 to Dream Park, and we can’t wait to see it brought to life! Our donation will be used to build the park’s Picnic Grove, where friends and family can gather for picnics and spend time together.
