Importing vehicles to the U.S. is not always a common practice by popular automakers, but once in a while a model is considered a fit for multiple markets and we get lucky. This may be the case with the Honda S600, a small roadster on the Japanese market, which is currently being considered for the North American market. Since its debut overseas this year, it has been a hit in the kei car segment and, if imported, it could find additional success in the U.S.
Information about Honda's interest in importing the S660 roadster to the U.S. comes straight from American Honda Executive Vice President John Mendel. In a new interview with Edmunds, Mendel said Honda was thinking about bringing the small car to North America in order to add "spice" to the lineup, but admitted there is no guarantee it will happen. Before giving it the green light, Honda wants to make sure the car is right for the U.S. market and will meet customer demands.
Donning a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive configuration, the model could prove to be an excellent sporty addition to Honda's lineup. It has a soft top roof and could pack a 1.0L three-cylinder engine if it hits the U.S. market, which would be sure to excite drivers across the country.
