Honda is gearing up to take its Accord lineup to a whole new level with the launch of the 2017 Accord Hybrid this spring. The vehicle offers the highest EPA fuel economy ratings of any midsize hybrid sedan and delivers the most power.

Underneath the hood, this sophisticated car combines Honda’s two-motor hybrid system with a super-efficient 2-liter i-VTEC Atkinson Cycle motor that generates 212 horses (16 more than the 2015 model). EPA fuel economy estimates for the Accord Hybrid are 48 mpg combined (49 city/47 highway). The four-door sedan’s powertrain effortlessly transitions between three operations:

  • EV Drive – using its electric propulsion motor and lithium ion battery pack, this system powers the front wheels for short distances under light loads (with the gas engine turned off)
  • Hybrid Drive – the electric propulsion engine drives the front wheels while the gasoline engine powers a second motor/generator to supplement electrical current drawn from the battery pack
  • Engine Drive – using a lock-up clutch mechanism to connect the engine and propulsion motor, the front wheels are driven by both the motor and gasoline engine.

"The new Honda Accord Hybrid is the ultimate Accord – the most refined, technologically sophisticated and, of course, most fuel efficient in the lineup," said John Mendel, Executive Vice President of the American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "With Accord already America's most popular car three years running and the best-selling midsize car to younger buyers, we think this new hybrid model will add considerable momentum for the Honda brand."

Three trim levels will be offered: base, EX-L, and Touring. However, no matter the trim, the car offers plenty of great features. All Hybrid models come standard with the Honda Sensing suite of semi-autonomous technologies like lane keep assist, autonomous braking and adaptive cruise control, as well as a backup camera and remote engine start. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can also be had on the new Hybrid at no additional charge. Purchasers will find more amenity on higher trims: heated rear seats, parking sensors and a 7-inch infotainment system.

Outside, the Hybrid carries over much of the same specs as the other Accord variants, with the exception of blue-tinted LED headlights and a unique aluminum hood.

On the inside, the all-new Hybrid exudes elegance and sporty flair with its sweeping dashboard and easy-to-use controls. Honda optimized the high-tech features on the Hybrid.
