This year, after promises of a tenth generation Civic hatchback, Honda introduced the world to the model's first concept car at the Geneva Motor Show. Understandably, auto fans everywhere were very excited. Now, after months of waiting along with a set of leaked spy photos, Honda has confirmed that this long-awaited model will finally hit the market this fall.
Honda Civic fans are bound to love this sporty hatchback that offers a more spacious and versatile option to the lineup. The model will be available in five trims: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L and Sport Touring. The Sport Touring, a new trim level for the Honda Civic near Dallas, is likely to offer a slew of features like LED headlights, smart phone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and the Honda Sensing safety package.
The hatchback will feature one solid engine choice: a 1.5-liter turbo four that delivers 174 horsepower on most trims. Those who opt for either of the Sport trims, which are fitted with high-flow center-mounted exhaust pipes, will enjoy a boost to 180 horsepower. The turbo engine comes paired to either a manual 6-speed or continuously variable transmission. Regardless of transmission choice, this turbo engine is guaranteed to be a blast to drive.
Honda racers rejoice! There is also speculation that the new Civic hatchback will be the basis for the upcoming Type-R models that will be sold in the US next year. For those unfamiliar with the Civic Type-R, it is a high-performance model of the Civic that is currently only sold abroad. This hatchback is a pretty promise of great things to come within this year and next.
