While we're still halfway through the year, it's never too early to think about what will be produced in the future. Things can change drastically from car design to accessories and even music in just a few years. Some artists look for inspiration from old things dug up from the past. Others take a cue from the newest innovations on the market. One of Japan's biggest carmakers, Honda, is doing just that. On July 19 to 21, they took their 2023 Civic Type R out for some testing at the Suzuka Circuit in Mie Prefecture.
A few members of the Hondasports.com forum were lucky enough to get a chance to head up to Suzuka Circuit in Japan and drive the new 2023 Honda Civic Type R just a few days before the car was revealed at the Geneva Auto Show. Based on their feedback, it is clear that Honda has done a great job with its latest street racing machine.
Testers were given an open track day with no speed limits; Honda wanted to see how fast they could take the car around the track. A lap time of 1:45.8 was the result, which is faster than many road-legal race cars on the market today.
Testers say they were initially surprised by how comfortable the car was on city streets and highways. The ride is smooth, even on rougher roads, making for a pleasant experience for passengers and drivers. One tester stated that he'd never felt more confident and comfortable driving a performance car through traffic than he did in the new Civic Type R.
Honda is bringing back their Type R performance model with the 2023 Civic Type R. While it will not feature a manual transmission, Honda promises that the car will reach 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.
Takahiro Hachigo, the CEO of Honda, spoke at a press event in Japan. He said, "The Type R is more than just a performance vehicle." He went on to say that the Honda brand could use a boost in popularity after their recent performance at the Sochi Olympic Games. "We know that Type R owners will go to great lengths to modify their cars for better performance, and we are counting on this new model to bring out the details hidden in each part."
Honda has seen the future, and you and I should all be suitably jealous. Honda's 2023 Civic Type R will thrill us with its turbocharged, 2.0-liter engine, which produces three times as much torque at low revs as the Golf R. Needless to say, it will also be more efficient than its competitors, returning about 22 miles per gallon on average. It will also tackle 0-62 in 4.2 seconds, which is 0.5 seconds quicker than its predecessor.
