Honda's ambitious goal of zero environmental impact by 2050 is becoming more attainable, thanks in part to Bob Nelson, the executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Nelson, who also serves as chair of Honda's North American environmental committee, was recently honored as the 2024 Automotive News All-Star in the Sustainability category for his contributions.
Bob Nelson Recognized for Sustainability Efforts
On December 9, 2024, Bob Nelson was celebrated at the Automotive News All-Star awards. Under his leadership, Honda has been executing its Triple Action to Zero strategy, which encompasses carbon neutrality, resource recycling, and clean energy production and targets zero environmental impact by 2050.
Nelson shared his thoughts on receiving the award: "It is an honor for me to lead this companywide effort that involves an incredible team of creative and passionate Honda associates who are working to realize our goal of zero environmental impact.” He acknowledged that there are challenges ahead but is confident that Honda's efforts will bear fruit by 2050 or sooner.
Starting his career at the Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio, Nelson has played a significant role within Honda, especially in manufacturing. He was instrumental in developing Honda's first sustainability award for suppliers. In his current position, Nelson handles a wide range of responsibilities, from human resources to business operations, while focusing on Honda's environmental goals.
Nelson also continues to lead as chair of the Honda North American environmental committee, overseeing strategies among 13 groups across the continent. His leadership has been essential in navigating the complexities of Honda's environmental initiatives.
