Honda Celebrates Seven-Decades of Motorsports Heritage at Monterey Car Week

During Monterey Car Week in August 2026, Honda Motor celebrated an extraordinary racing legacy spanning more than seven decades. The famed manufacturer highlighted its rich heritage in both automobile and motorcycle racing through interactive demonstrations, vehicle displays, and the official introduction of its Heritage Program.

Honda's Celebratory Events

The inauguration of the HRC Heritage Racing Program represented a cornerstone of Honda's Monterey presence. This initiative offers motorsport collectors the opportunity to acquire, restore, and drive historic competition vehicles from Honda and Acura. The curated inventory featured cars that had previously contested famed tracks such as Daytona, Le Mans, Sebring, and Laguna Seca. The program's flagship sale vehicle was the #28 XM Satellite Radio AGR Acura ARX-01a, highlighted at The Quail during "A Motorsports Gathering." Each restored vehicle on display underwent thorough aesthetic and safety enhancements designed to maintain historic authenticity while meeting modern driving standards.

In tandem with the sales program, Honda exhibited 20 championship-winning automobiles and motorcycles representing series such as IndyCar, Formula 1, IMSA, Baja racing, MotoGP, SCCA, Dakar, AMA Supercross, Formula Xtreme, and the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. Spectators viewed these historic models at top Monterey venues, including Motorlux, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca.

Honda's Racing History

Few names in motorsport match the storied track record of Honda. From motorcycle grand prix to elite open-wheel series, Honda vehicles have continually set benchmarks for performance. The company made its international racing debut at the 1959 Isle of Man TT motorcycle race. Since that milestone, Honda has accumulated 17 triumphs at the Indianapolis 500, setting the record for the most Indy 500 wins by any automaker. Additionally, Honda has secured 25 Grand Prix and MotoGP Constructors' Championships, as well as six Formula 1 Drivers' Championships and six Formula 1 Constructors' titles.

Founded in 1982, Honda Racing Corporation continues to spearhead the company's global motorsport endeavors. Honda's competitive history is permanently commemorated at the Honda Collection Hall in Japan and the American Honda Collection Hall.
