2018 Honda Odyssey exterior redesign

If the Honda Odyssey had a motto it would be: the more the merrier. For full-size families, it’s a go-to pick, handling carpools, road trips and everything else in between with aplomb.

The redesigned 2018 Odyssey builds on last year’s model with a long list of appealing changes that make it a top choice among competitors. Here’s what you can expect when the new model comes to Dallas-Fort Worth.

CabinTalk & CabinWatch
When the kids get a little rambunctious, you can get their attention with CabinTalk, a feature that not only projects the driver’s voice through back-row speakers, but also through the rear entertainment system headphones! Conversely, if you want to keep a closer eye on your kids or pets, CabinWatch gives you the ability to view what’s going on through the minivan’s audio display.

Greater Connectivity
A new connected rear seat entertainment system allows backseat passengers to stream video on a 10.2-inch screen from sources like PBS Kids, Spotify, iHeart radio and other apps (via available Wi-Fi hotspot). In addition, when the kids get impatient on family road trips, there’s a new app that can help; it’s called “How Much Farther?” and it keeps track of your trip progress.

Another notable new feature is the CabinControl app, which allows backseat passengers to manage the rear entertainment system, rear AC and rear heating with their smartphones. Part of the CabinControl app, Social Playlist enables up to seven passengers to add music to the audio system from their smartphones.

New Display Audio
The Honda Odyssey’s audio system is more streamlined with an 8-inch touchscreen that offers a new menu layout, customizable app tiles and a new operating system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now available.

Magic Slide Seats
One of the most talked about new features on the 2018 Honda Odyssey, Magic Slide Seats move back, forth and right to left to provide exceptional flexibility and super easy access to the third-row seat. Here’s how Honda describes the seating configurations offered with their Magic Slide Seats:

Honda Sensing is now standard on EX and above trims. The package includes Collision Mitigation Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation and Adaptive Cruise Control.

New Powertrain
The 2018 Odyssey will feature a new 3.5-liter direct-injected V6 engine that generates 280 horsepower (up from 248 hp). New 9- and 10-speed automatic transmissions have also been introduced for the 2018 model year.

New Chassis & Body
Odyssey’s performance was already praiseworthy, but will be further enhanced thanks to a new chassis and body. Overall, the minivan’s structure is lighter, more aerodynamic and 44 percent more rigid.
