Come 2027, Honda's next-generation fuel cell module will officially enter production. This advancement is generating buzz at not one, but two global showcases: the International Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Expo in Japan and the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in North America.
The Next Evolution in Honda Fuel Cell Technology
In today's auto landscape, efficiency reigns supreme. Carmakers focus on cost-effectiveness, and consumers crave dependable, energy-saving solutions. Honda's new Fuel Cell Module addresses both needs. It is expected to cut manufacturing expenses by half and bring more consistent performance to the driver's daily commute.
Durability Doubled
Honda reports that the new fuel cell module will "double" durability and may reduce production costs by up to 50%. Even better? It delivers triple the volumetric power density compared to earlier models.
Collaboration Opportunities Ahead
This innovation leap is expected to attract significant interest from companies operating in the fuel cell market. Honda is open to working with organizations that are just as passionate about advancing hydrogen fuel technologies.
Leadership Insight
David Perznski, assistant manager of Hydrogen Solutions Development at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., shared, “Our production plan for the next generation Honda fuel cell module demonstrates our continued commitment to support hydrogen as an enabler for decarbonization.” Honda's team is excited to bring this cutting-edge tech to the spotlight.
On April 28, Honda will present its Class 8 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Truck concept, unveil the updated fuel cell module, and debut the 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV—America's inaugural plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle to enter production. The new module offers an output voltage of 450-850V, a maximum net output of 150 kW, and 59.8% net efficiency. Honda encourages interested businesses to connect and collaborate on further development.
